How to Trim a Beard

25 May 2009

These days, beards are more and more becoming the latest fashion trend. Walk down a busy street and you're bound to see a host of faces covered in facial hair. It is important to remember, however, that you can't just let a beard grow without caring for it. If you don't learn how to trim a beard, your face could end up looking like a horror movie!

  1. The first step in learning how to trim a beard is to decide which style you want. There are many different beard styles out there, and it's personal preference as to which one you may want to adopt. Many people will go with the standard, original beard - this is also the easiest to care for. Also, it is much easier to care for a beard with an electric shaver or beard trimmer, so if you haven't bought one yet, now might be the time.

  2. When considering how to trim a beard, the most important part is that it looks clean when you are done with it. First, take the shaver and trim around the base of your beard (on your neck). The bottom of your beard should look like a semi circle with the concave part pointing down towards your chest.

  3. Next, start shaving any patchy sections that are growing on your face. You want to carve out a distinct line on your face so that the beard looks well groomed and not unkempt.

  4. The last, most important part of trimming your beard is to cut off any excess hair that sticks out of your beard. It helps to have a  pair of manicuring scissors for this. This can be challenging, as it takes a lot of practice to use a scissors while looking in the mirror, but you will be happy that you learned, as your beard may look extremely unprofessionally kept otherwise. Be sure to trim evenly all around the entire beard, so that one part is not more or less full than another.

Hopefully these tips have helped you to learn how to trim a beard. This is a skill that will last you a lifetime!
