How to Shave (for Women)

26 May 2009

Let's face it - there is nothing more embarrassing for a woman than walking down the street with hairy legs! These days, it can be frustrating for women of any age to look their best. With television, radio, and other forms of media and advertising, people are being made to think that they must look just like the model in the photo shoot or else risk being seen as "ugly." While this is not necessarily true at all, it is in a woman's best interest to learn how to shave -- be it shaving legs, shaving armpits, shaving bikini lines, or other more sensitive places.

  1. First, it is important to condition the skin with warm water. Thus, a shower is the most logical place to begin the shaving process. Spend at least five to ten minutes in a shower with the water on warm so that the skin will soften and relax. This serves more than one purpose - not only will it relax you, but it will cause the hair to pull more easily from the skin when you begin shaving.
  2. Next, you will want to exfoliate your skin with soap and a sponge, in order to remove any sort of dead skin that may inhibit your ability to get a close shave.
  3. Then it is time to lather up some shaving cream or conditioner and coat your leg, ankle, or other region in order to prepare for shaving. This will help to keep you from cutting yourself in any way and will help the razor to grasp the hair.
  4. For your legs, start with the razor at your ankle, shave up towards your knee, all around your leg until the shave is complete. It helps to prop your leg up on the side of tub when doing this so you don't lose your balance and inadvertently cut yourself. Repeat with the other leg. Once you are done, rinse your leg completely so that all conditioner and hair is freed from the surface, and pat dry with a towel.
